May I ask you some questions? I want you to really pay attention to your reaction to each one.

  • Do you love and adore your body?
  • Do you love the food that you eat, savoring every bite?
  • Do you love the exercise that you’re doing and the feeling of moving your body?
  • Do you love to sweat?
  • Do you love and appreciate every part of your body—even the parts that most people think are gross?

What emotions did you feel when you read those questions? Did they bring up strong positive or negative reactions?

This is more important than you may realize.

Your body is a reflection of your predominate thoughts, feelings, and beliefs.

Think about your responses to the questions above.

Did your positive or negative emotional reaction match the experience that you’re having with your body right now?

Most of my clients hate their body. Most of the thoughts, feelings, and beliefs they have about their body are negative. For instance:

  • You may hate how you look in or out of your clothes.
  • You may judge specific body parts.
  • You may hate—or at the best—tolerate exercise.
  • You may be a picky eater. You think you just don’t like healthy food.
  • You may eat on the run, or read while you eat, or otherwise distract yourself so you don’t truly appreciate what you are eating in the moment.

When you accept that you are what you think, feel, and believe, is it any wonder that you struggle with your weight?

Changing your thoughts about your body makes it easier to release the weight, helps create a more fulfilling weight-loss experience—and makes it easier to keep the weight off!

But you may have had these negative thoughts, feelings, and beliefs about your body for a while now. And you aren’t where you want to be. You are overweight, and maybe out of shape. How can you think anything other than what is the reality of your body?

That’s the rub.

Most women think that when their bodies change they will change how they think about their body. But the reverse is actually true.

To create sustainable, fun, and lasting weight-loss results you have to change how you think about your body first.

The luminary Louise Hay advises women to look in the mirror everyday and say to yourself, “I love you.”

While this is a powerful exercise, for many of the women I work with that is too big a leap from where they are. When they look themselves in the eye and say, “I love youit feels like a big fat lie.

This is actually just adding to the problem.

A great way to start shifting your thoughts, feelings, and beliefs about your body is begin appreciating even small things about your body. 

Maybe you can appreciate your hair, your hands, or your eyes? Maybe you can appreciate how hard your body is working for you despite the regular harsh criticism? Maybe you can appreciate that you are up and moving around and functioning in your life?

There is ALWAYS something to appreciate about your body.

When you begin to consciously appreciate and enjoy your body, you begin to find more things to appreciate. And that can expand to enjoying the food you eat.

When you really get how amazing your body is, you discover that you naturally want to provide it with healthy foods and to move it every day. Over time, eating healthy food and exercising began to be something you enjoy.

The more you begin shifting your thoughts and feelings to what you want, the easier it becomes to do those things that would move you towards the body you want.

Eventually you can look at yourself in the mirror and honestly say,

  • I love and appreciate every single part of my magnificent body.
  • I love being strong, fit, and slim.
  • I love being active.
  • I love eating mostly healthy foods and how good I feel as a result.
  • I love to really get after a workout and sweat.

Pay attention to how you feel about your body—diet, exercise, how you look in your clothes, everything. How much are you loving or hating it? How can you shift your thoughts and emotions towards feeling just a little bit better?

Do that, and it won’t be long until your body is exactly where you want it to be.
