Love Yourself

My personal love week is coming to an end. My husband and I have spent the last five days celebrating our 21st Anniversary. As we head out today to share some love, I encourage you to take action to give yourself some love.

Not long ago, I watched a woman grab her stomach and say, “This is why I want to lose weight.”

It sounded like self-criticism. It sounded like frustration. It sounded like disgust.

Often, women will make the decision to lose weight when the pain of being where they are is greater than the fear of change.

And most women fear the process of losing weight.

This makes total sense because in the past, it’s been hard. You have to endure hunger and deprivation. You have to endure body shame.

But the problem with approaching weight-loss with a foundation of fear and anger is that it isn’t sustainable. When you make it torture, you endure until you meet your goal and then you go back to your old patterns—only to regain the weight.

Then you are faced with having to lose the weight—again.

And losing the weight is even more difficult because now you have the memory of how hard it was. You know the horrors you are facing and you just can’t make yourself go there.

Who can blame you! Who wants to voluntarily suffer over and over again? Is it any wonder that every fiber of your being fights the very idea of diet and exercise?

To change your results, you have to change how you approach the problem.

  • How much easier would it be to release the weight if you actually enjoyed the actions you were taking?
  • What if moving your body and eating healthy foods actually felt like being Who you were meant to be?
  • What if you loved and appreciated your body so much, that it felt like giving yourself a gift each time you make a decision that reflects your desire for optimal wellness?

What if love was the foundation of your weight-loss actions instead of fear?

The only things getting in your way of that new reality are your current beliefs.

You currently believe that you hate exercise. You currently believe that you have to be hungry and feel deprived to lose weight. You currently believe that losing weight has to be hard.

As Abraham-Hicks says, “A belief is just a thought you keep thinking.”

Therefore, the simplest way to shift from fear to love is to change the underlying thoughts.

This means opening your mind to the very possibility that there is another way. This means being willing to set aside past experiences and try something new. This means changing your thoughts about what you can do, who you really are, and what you deserve.

Simple, perhaps, but not necessarily easy. You have to persuade the fearful part of you to venture forth AND to try a different approach.

But with persistence, practice, and patience, you will gently be able to convince your subconscious that it is safe, that it is real, and that a foundation of love is WAY more powerful for releasing the weight.

Bonus! Not only do you actually enjoy the process of releasing the weight, but you love yourself—and your life—even more as a result.

The rewards are so worth persistently practicing shifting your thoughts from fear to love.

The fastest way to shift how you approach releasing the weight is to ease up on the fight, self-criticism, and the desire to have the end result right now.

You can begin by:

  • Finding things about your body to appreciate right now. And there ARE things to appreciate. Your heart is beating, you can read these words, you are functioning well enough to live your life.
  • Focusing on how being slim will make you feel—and feel that way as much as possible right now. Will it make you feel confident, successful, joyful? What are things that make you feel that way? Practice feeling that way.
  • Celebrating each tiny step that you make towards achieving your goals and letting go of all the rest.

Do this inner work to shift your thoughts and beliefs, and then watch how much you love not only the process of releasing the weight, but love yourself for taking the action.

Together we can do it!
